A Few Kindle Updates

Amazon’s Kindle, as well as its evolved form, the Kindle DX, have made many headlines since their release. However, there has not been much buzz about the Kindle or Amazon’s progress since the May 6th release of the Kindle DX, which can be read about here.

This might be due to the fact that the new device is not set to be shipped out until later this summer, with a price tag of $489, or it could be because Amazon refuses to release information to the media such as sales numbers of the eReader. Either way, Kindle news has declined sharply.

Today however, CEO Jeff Bezos tried to give a few updates and explain Amazons methods. Amazon plans never to release their sales numbers because they think it will give them a “competitive advantage” if they do not disclose this information. I don’t know at the moment how much competitors such as the Plastic Logic eReader are affected by this strategy.

In addition, Bezos gave a little taste of what to look forward to. Currently, a Kindle of color is in the distant works. Distant, because the CEO gave no official date, but stated that it may take a few years. Hopefully this does not take too many years; technology is moving so fast that I would not be surprised if in a few years the Kindle is obsolete. Also, at the rate the job market and economy is moving, I would also not be surprised if in a few years I am writing that story.
