Acer Recalls Notebooks for Fire Hazard

Acer has begun a voluntary recall of 22,000 netbooks in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission due to receiving reports of the affected computers short circuiting, which has led to melting of the external case and is a possible fire hazard.

The models affected include the Acer AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG with a 13.3 inch display, which were sold in various retailers including Amazon.com, ABS Computer Technologies, D&H Distributing, Fry’s Electronics, Ingram Micro, Radio Shack, SED/American Express, Synnex Corporation, SYX Distribution and Tech Data Corporation from June 2009 through October 2009 with pricing varying between $650 and $1,150.

No injuries have been reported in any of the reports Acer has received.
