Amazon Kindle DX

The $489 Amazon Kindle DX started shipping two days ago on June 10. Merely two days later, Amazon announced that it was out of stock, and they would be receiving a new shipment by June 17.

If you don’t remember what exactly the Kindle DX is, here is a quick comparison to Amazon’s original Kindle. The DX features a 9.7 inch screen, while the Kindle sports a 6 inch screen. The DX comes with an internal storage space that can hold up to 3,500 books, while the original device can only hold up to 1,500 books. It also has the ability to rotate the display to fit your viewing needs, a feature the original Kindle lacks. Let’s not overlook the 3G connectivity, which enables you to purchase books on the go.

Of course, the DX sold out within two days partly due to a lot of pre-orders taking place. However, come their next shipment on the 17th, expect shortages to follow shortly thereafter. If you still own the original Kindle but want to upgrade to the DX, I suggest trying to sell the original Kindle and then purchasing the DX, because $489 is pretty expensive, no matter how you look at it.
