Amazon Releases Kindle for iPhone and iPod Touch

Following up its plans to extend the Kindle platform to other devices and platforms besides its own, Amazon has released the Kindle reader application for iPhone and iPod Touch.

The application is a software version of the Kindle with the ability to browse and preview titles,the same book selection, magazines and newspapers that Kindle owners can buy, and the ability to change text size, add bookmarks, note and highlight text as in the dedicated Kindle 2 hardware along with full Whispernet sync between the Kindle 2 and iPod Touch/iPhone.

The only features excised from the application include search and dictionary support, with the app now available for free via the App Store.
