Apple Confirms SD Card Slot in New MacBook Pros Are Bootable

Apple has confirmed that the new SD Card slot, present on 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models, can be used to boot Mac OS X.

This will enable users to carry around a properly-formatted (GUID Partitioned) SDHC card, carrying a complete rescue install of Mac OS X. And, unlike a USB stick, it can be stored inside the MacBook Pro, sitting in the SD Card slot.

Keep in mind though that the SD Card slot is using the USB bus (a SATA SD Card slot would be very expensive for Apple to implement), so you won’t be able to install Windows on it.
