Apple Simplifies Common iPhone App Rejection Issue

About 48 hours ago, Apple posted a complete re-write of their sample code to test if an internet connection is available.

The original version of the app, titled Reachability, has been universally panned for being cryptic, and difficult to implement in other applications. The program depended heavily on having captive control of the iPhone’s interface, and not following Apple’s own MobileHIG to alert users. This forced developers to reinvent the wheel each time they created an application dependent on internet connectivity.

The new version has code that is simple to implement in any standard iPhone application. It is available to all developers in the iPhone Developer Program.

MechaWorks CEO Christopher Price criticized Apple weeks ago for the lack of a simple-to-implement version of Reachability, combined with Apple’s selective use of it to reject applications that tested the waters of App Store limits.
