A memo leaked earlier today by Engadget outlined several options given to users to upgrade to Windows 7.

According to the memo, Best Buy will start a “Technology Guarantee” program that guarantees all computers purchased between June 26, 2009 and the Windows 7 release date (October 22, 2009) will be eligible for a free upgrade to the new operating system. Operating systems eligible for this upgrade include Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate, but it is unknown at this time what users will be able to upgrade too. The “Technology Guarantee” is also valid for individual purchases of the same versions mentioned above.

At the same time users will be able to purchase upgrade versions of Windows 7 Home Premium for $49.99 and Windows 7 Professional for $99.99 through the Best Buy website. This offer will only last 16 days, from June 26, 2009 to July 11, 2009.

The memo also hints at other retailers having similar promotions at that time, but seem confident that their Geek Squad service will win consumers over. What those incentives may be, who knows. My guess is just a free install of Windows 7.
