Comcast Deploys Bandwidth Meter Nationwide

Comcast this week has completed the rollout of their almost two-year old promise to offer customers a bandwidth meter. This comes the same week that the FCC’s attempt to mandate net neutrality was shot down by the federal courts.

The bandwidth meter is available under the Users & Settings section of their customer portal, and has been available to business customers for the past two years. This indicates that the testing in select markets was behavioral, not technical. Comcast has an interest in making sure adding a bandwidth meter, doesn’t cause a surge in data usage.

Comcast customers are subject to both throttling and capping. In heavy use periods, consumers are slowed down, but still limited to no more than 250 GB of data per month… regardless of how fast their ‘Xfinity’ connection is.

Newsroom Network has held the consistent position that net neutrality should be enforced in the United States, and that bandwidth should be unlimited to consumers without having to purchase “business-class” plans. We plan to provide our own answer to Comcast’s rollout in the near future.
