Eee PC 901 to Use Atom, GMA 950
DailyTech has posted a breakdown of the latest Eee PC 901 news. The Eee PC 901 will be the first Eee PC system to ship using the Intel Atom processor.
This is more important for OSx86 computing than at first glance. See, the Eee PC 700/701 and 900 all use the GMA 900 graphics system, which as you may know from this site… doesn’t work too well on Mac OS X at all.
The good news is that the Eee PC 901, will completely replace the chipset used by ASUS. Instead of using a Intel i915-based chipset, the system will use the Intel 945GSE chipset… which uses the GMA 950 as its graphics system.
Is the GMA 950 spectacular for OSx86? Well, no, things run much better on the GMA X3100… but it does run hardware-accelerated graphics on Leopard.
In case you haven’t figured out by now, we’re going to be passing on the Eee PC 900 completely (it’s practically identical to the 700 in terms of OSx86 support).

Hey guys, nice site, was wondering if there are any updates on getting Leopard running on a 901 (or 1000 for that matter)? Cheers.
We’re waiting for the Linux 901 to be released. Because the 901 gives more disk space (a larger SSD drive) for the Linux version than the XP version… we’re playing the waiting game.
At this point, the only Atom-based Eee that has launched state-side is the Eee 901 with XP (and the smaller, 12 GB SSD combo).
I got a “900A” which is Atom and supposedly the GMA 950.
Is there some guidance somewhere how I could try running Leopard on it ?
