Elgato Adds Hauppauge HD PVR Support, Gives Mac Platform Agnostic PVR
Regardless of if you want to capture HD video or TV from your Xbox 360 or your DirecTV receiver, thus far, there has only been one game in town; Hauppauge’s HD PVR. And, until today, you’ve needed Windows to do that. No more.
Elgato, makers of the popular EyeTV software have been testing support for the HD PVR since mid-November, but some have noticed recently that the support now actually works. And, it gives Mac users an alternative from buying shows from the iTunes Music Store, as the HD PVR allows the capture of the full range of channels from your cable or satellite provider… free from the restrictions of ClearQAM and ATSC.
We asked Elgato if EyeTV was on discount at Macworld, and they said that the software version was being discounted online. However, their web site still lists it at the standard retail price of $79.99. At that price, it’s a better bargain to grab the combo with a modified Pinnacle PCTV adapter for mobile TV (currently on sale for $129).
