Eye on The Prize: Get the Mac Mojo Out of MediaSmart Home Servers
Part of our coverage on CentralGadget.com, is going to be accomplishing things. Getting stuff done. Now, we’ve done this over on PhoneNews.com for years (in various call-to-arms and consumer advocacy efforts).
And, one thing we haven’t really liked, is that HP is making everyone buy their new Windows Home Server to get all the Mac-focused additions. One, Microsoft should have been leading development on that stuff. And, two, HP is basically suggesting that first-gen Windows Home Server owners throw out their existing setups… for another first-gen WHS box.
And, worse, the new MediaSmart servers lack things that tech-centric people want, like, an external monitor port. We get that Home Servers are designed to live without a keyboard, mouse, and monitor… but that ignores the folks that want to max out their server’s potential. So, we’re going to step in to help out.
We’d like anyone with a new MediaSmart server, when they get it, to start examining the differences with a stock home server. What was added? Who made it? We’re going to see what can be done to offer up the Mac adaptations so that everyone can benefit… legally.
And, if we have to bounty up certain software development, we’ll be happy to do that as well. We think the Windows Home Server is a great solution, and we look forward to making it better… even if you already own a Home Server box.
