Palm has released the source code to its Linux-based webOS operating system found on the Palm Pre as a condition of maintaining compliance with the GPL licensing agreement along with opening a dedicated webpage for interested developers.

Some of the highlights in the release include the use of the latest version of the Linux kernel, software patches for the ARM application processor, drivers for the accelerometer, audio/video decoder libraries and libraries to allow access to system functions within applications along with standard Linux libraries for general development.

Palm had recently addressed the topic of its development program and tacit dismissal of the homebrew developer and burgeoning hacker community building around the Pre. The Mojo SDK is now expected to be released by the end of the Summer season.
