Question? Wolfram Alpha May Have an Answer

Remember the days of AskJeeves.com? Set to launch on May 18th, Wolfram Alpha intends to bring this method of research back to the internet mainstream. This type of search tool, won’t be like the usual yahoo or google, but it will feature more of an “ask a question” type of search. It will provide an answer, rather than the various sources and references in which to search for the answer yourself.

Its added feature is that it will have an intellegence about its answering ability. One example is how it can calculate the distance based on your location soley from your IP address rather than input provided. However so far, there are many kinks to work out and as of now it will simply say “Wolfram Alpha isn’t sure what to do with your input” for those tough quiries.

It will take some practice in learning how to efficiently use the tool. It will provide exmaples on the best ways to structure your question to get the most accurate answer.

I am sure much will change over the course of its first few days. If it is successful enough perhaps it will become a household name in quick searches for trivia, facts and the like. If it does prove to work well, jeopardy wont have anything on me when I watch it anymore, that’s for sure.
