Sony Reveals New Slimmer PS3 at GamesCom
Today Sony announced the newest PS3 model which boasts a smaller size, price tag, and power consumption. Hoping to reach the cheaper and environmentally concerned fan based, Sony released the latest PlayStation 3 at GamesCom, which is set to be available on September 1 in the United States.
For $300, the slimmer PS3 features a 120 GB hard drive, consumes 34% less electricity, and takes up 36% less space than it’s slightly larger cousin. Otherwise, it comes with the same features and ports as the other models do with a few exceptions In case a cheaper PS3 is appealing, all other existing PS3 price tags are going to be marked down by a $100 in an attempt to boost sales.
The PS3 will also be available in Europe for 300 Euros, and it will make its Japanese debut for 29,980 Yen the first week of September.




Is this PS3 compatible with earlier PS games?
The PS3 Slim, like other recent PS3 models, can only play original PlayStation games. The PS3 Slim cannot play PlayStation 2 games.
Sony has followed up saying that no future model of PS3 is slated to return the PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility.
