In an attempt to gain new customers, Verizon is offering free Wi-Fi access in select locations to customers who have  pre-existing FiOS service or High Speed Internet service.

For new FiOS customers, as long as you sign up for a 25/15 Mbps or faster service, you are eligible to use any of the thousands of Verizon Wi-Fi hotspots for free.

In case you are signing up for their High Speed Internet service, as long as your speed is at least 3 Mbps/768 Kpbs, you are still eligible for the Wi-Fi service. Verizon has also begun offering netbooks with select packages, so offering free Wi-Fi for those eligible makes sense as a way to help those users stay connected.

This promotion is available for both new customers and pre-existing ones; the service required for new users and pre-existing users is the same.  The free Wi-Fi service begins today, and current account information is needed to log onto a hotspot.
