Where’s the Leopard Guide?
Good question. To be honest, things aren’t going as well with Leopard on the Eee PC.
I’m sure a lot of you have read the Leopard Eee PC guide over on Uneasy Silence. Part of the reason why MacEee.com was built, was that this guide really was just a rough draft of the process. It works, but it doesn’t work well.
Well, while that post got a lot of links and a lot of attention, it’s not as rosy as the guide makes out. First, graphics is pretty much shot, so you can forget about the GMA 900. Second, it has all the issues of Tiger. Third, it runs even slower than Tiger does on the Eee PC.
Oh, and none of the distributions of OSx86 that are current will even boot on the Eee PC.
Now, back to the ToH build that was referenced in the Uneasy Silence article. It doesn’t work as well as the writer makes out. In fact, I can’t get it to run on my Eee PC. The installer hangs on language selection. It simply refuses to install.
So, will there be a Leopard guide for the Eee PC? There is some hope, as hackers like JaS are working on updated SSE2 builds for OSx86. However, as it stands now, we’re not really prepared to publish a guide. That may change within the week, or it may never come at all. However, when things do develop, updates will folllow.
