Windows 7 RTM is Officially Official

Microsoft today issued press releases confirming that Windows 7 has been Released To Manufacturing (RTM). This means that Windows 7 has reached golden master, and is now being pressed onto discs, as well as in the hands of OEMs.

This news isn’t particularly new however, as Microsoft held a rather low-key event 48 hours ago. There, they “handed” symbolic boxes containing the first Windows 7 discs to OEMs. OEMs will now be able to begin customizing and pre-installing Windows 7 onto new computers, ahead of the launch.

Windows 7 will ship to consumers (in retail/disc form) on October 22. Be sure to pre-order to lock in the 50% discount on Home Premium (and Professional) upgrades.
